Drainage Upgrade Works at Michael Street & Saxon Street, Brunswick

Michael St and Saxon St in Brunswick were subject to flooding. Moreland City Council engaged Evergreen Civil to install a 770m3 stormwater detention system underneath Michael St and associated drainage upgrade works to Michael St & Saxon St to alleviate the flooding.

As a part of the tender process, we suggested an alternative detention system to that proposed. This was the Humes StormTrap system. We were then engaged to manage the redesign process to incorporate the StormTrap system. The end result was a system that met the storage requirements in a more cost-efficient manner, and as a bonus, the system is easily extended to provide for additional storage in the future, should it be required.

A summary of all works is as follows:

• Supply and install 770m3 of the Humes StormTrap stormwater detention system up to a depth of 2.7m
• Supply and install trash grates and one way valves to ensure gross pollutants do not head downstream and to ensure that downstream storm surges do not fill the detention system
• Excavate and dispose approximately 2000m3 of road and subgrade material
• Over 100m of stormwater drainage between 300mm and 450mm diameter
• Construction of 31 new pits including double and triple pits
• Reinstatement of previously poor condition bluestone kerb and channel
• A full road resheet including linemarking
• Installation of street furniture including bollards and seats
• Intensive traffic management as required for the works
